Carbon capture technology and five major production sectors that contribute in environmental pollution

 What is carbon capture technology?

Carbon capture technology is a process that captures carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from power plants, industrial facilities, and other sources, before they are released into the atmosphere. The captured CO2 can then be stored in underground reservoirs, used in industrial processes, or converted into useful products like fuel or building materials.

-> Examples:

-> Century plant:

The greatest CCS plant in the world is the Century petroleum gas handling facility in West Texas, owned by Occidental Oil. In 2008, Sandridge Energy and Occidental Oil agreed to set up and staff the Century CCS office. The plant, which cost over 1.1 billion dollars to build, captures CO2 for Occidental's improved oil recovery (EOR) projects in the Permian Bowl. The CO2 catching plant, which is located in Pecos District, began operations in November 2010 by charging its most iconic train. This train has a plan limit of 5 million tones of CO2 capture annually. In late 2012, a new CO2 limit of 3.4 million tones per year was imposed on the following train. A 160 kilometer pipeline transports the CO2 collected by the office to a contemporary central point located in Denver City.

-> Shute creek gas processing plant:

The Shute Spring gas processing facility is located in Wyoming, United States, and is owned by ExxonMobil. Around 365 million cubic feet of CO2 are captured daily by the CCS facility operating nearby LaBarge, Lincoln Region, which is equivalent to taking more than 1.5 million automobiles off the road. The CO2 captured by the pre-burning method used by the Shute Rivulet gas handling plant is applied to better oil recovery operations in various Wyoming oil fields. CO2 is transported through pipes from Exxon, Anadarko, and ChevronTexaco out of the Shute River CCS office. The volatile gas streams produced from the LaBarge gas well and other fields in Wyoming are the source of CO2 that the facility captures. The LaBarge handling facility separates the CO2 from several components. To equip the office with the Controlled Freeze Zone (CFZ) catch innovation it developed, ExxonMobil completed an 86 million USD addition at the Shute Stream gas processing plant in 2010. The CO2 is frozen out and then softened using CFZ's single-step cryogenic division process, which also gets rid of methane, hydrogen sulphide, and other components found in harsh gas resources.

-> Methods:
There are several different methods for capturing CO2, including:

-> Pre-combustion capture:
This method involves capturing CO2 before fossil fuels are burned. The fuel is reacted with oxygen or steam to produce a gas mixture containing CO2, which can then be separated and captured.

-> Post-combustion capture:
This method involves capturing CO2 after it has been emitted from the burning of fossil fuels. The CO2 is separated from other gases using chemicals or physical processes.

-> Oxy-fuel combustion:
This method involves burning fossil fuels in a mixture of oxygen and recycled flue gas, which produces a flue gas containing mostly CO2 and water vapor. The CO2 can then be easily separated and captured.

-> Direct air capture:
This method involves capturing CO2 directly from the air using chemical or physical processes.

-> Carbon sequestration:
This method involves storing carbon dioxide underground in geologic formations, such as depleted oil and gas reservoirs or saline aquifers. The carbon dioxide is injected into these formations, where it is expected to remain for hundreds or thousands of years.

-> Carbon capture and utilization(CCU):
This method involves capturing carbon dioxide and using it as a feedstocks for the production of chemicals, fuels, and other products.
